True To Form

Steven Salerno

Busting out in front? Junk in the trunk? These Stanford sartorialists have you covered—top to bottom.

Designed with full-busted women in mind, Buxom, Inc.’s sleepwear features curve-flattering details such as adjustable straps and tailoring at the waistline. Founder Christine Kurek, ’91, was inspired to create the line after fruitlessly searching for similar products for herself. “I am my own market,” says the 5-foot-4-1/2 inch former Yahoo lawyer, whose average-size figure is complemented (“or complicated,” she says) by an ample bosom. “I can tell you that there are limited options for women who aren’t plus-sized but still have larger bustlines.”

What Buxom does for the décolleté, Bonobos does for the derriere. Bonobos pants are the creation of Brian Spaly and Andy Dunn, both MBA ’07. When he couldn’t find trousers to fit his, ahem, “athletic” build, Spaly taught himself to sew. “For the average sporty guy, high-fashion pants are too tight, but mass-market pants are way too baggy,” he says. The solution: a design that boasts a curved waistband, less material in the thigh area, and plenty of room in the caboose. What’s more, Bonobos come in eye-catching colors like Breton (Nantucket) red and Ireland Forever green.

Because, as the saying goes: “If you’ve got it, flaunt it.”
