Neuroscientist and biology professor Robert Sapolsky has written much about the interplay between brain and behavior. In a thought-provoking op-ed, he cites the case of convicted child molester Jerry Sandusky to point out that just as brain chemistry can cause abnormal urges, it can also cause uncontrollable behavior—a daunting challenge to the criminal justice system and to the notion of free will, “the big ol’ philosophical elephant in the room.”

Issa Rae, ’07, is turning heads with The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, her do-it-yourself web-based sitcom now in its second season. A New York Times TV critic hailed its “sharp, pointillist humor,” and the Time Entertainment blog interviewed Rae for her thoughts on the web’s importance to people of color and its disruptive effect on Hollywood.
