FOOTBALL ASSISTANT McGLOCKTON DIES

Chester McGlockton, a defensive assistant on Stanford's coaching staff for the last two seasons, died November 30 at age 42. McGlockton, who is survived by his wife, Zina, and two daughters, played 12 seasons as a defensive lineman in the NFL, beginning with the Los Angeles Raiders, who made him a first-round draft pick in 1992.

DUKE HALTS FIELD HOCKEY SURGE

A season of success hit the wall when the field hockey team was beaten 5-0 by Duke in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. The No. 10-ranked squad went into the tourney on the strength of the program's first at-large berth in school history, and the final win-loss record of 17-4 included six victories over top-20 opponents.

CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS IN TOP 10s

A second-place individual performance by Chris Derrick, '12, led men's cross country to fifth place at the NCAA championships. Derrick was also named Pac-12's fall scholar-athlete for his sport. In the women's competition, the Cardinal took 10th, paced by 21st-place finisher Kathy Kroeger, a junior.
