This issue marks the end of Paul Carstensen's outstanding tenure at Stanford. As art director for the last five years, he designed an elegant and energetic magazine. The recipient of numerous design awards, Paul has a keen appreciation for the importance of making words and art fit together in a coherent package. He tackled his last major assignment--the gatefold on Stanford's amazing array of wildlife --with his usual gusto, working weekends as he tinkered and refined, playing his Mac keyboard like a master jazz pianist. As Paul moves on to be art director for Attaché, the new magazine of U.S. Airways, we reproduce here a few of his favorite pages over the years. We'll miss him, and we wish him and his family well. |
