Stephen Schneider was one of 15 Stanford faculty members and among 255 scientists who decried "political assaults" on climate scientists in a letter appearing in May in Science magazine. Declaring the attacks of climate-change deniers as "typically driven by special interests or dogma," the letter signers called for an end to "the harassment of scientists by politicians" and said "delay must not be an option" in addressing human-induced climate changes, "including the unrestrained burning of fossil fuels."
Other Stanford signers included Paul Erlich, professor of population studies, University president emeritus Donald Kennedy and biology professor Gretchen Daily.
