Pac-12 Seals Deal With ESPN, Fox
The Pac-12 Conference announced an agreement in May with ESPN and Fox Sports on a 12-year TV contract that will usher in a new era of equal revenue sharing among the league's members. The terms were not officially disclosed, but the deal was widely reported to be worth about $3 billion over the length of the pact.
Highlights of the arrangement, which showcases the football and men's basketball programs, include a prime-time Friday night slot for the new conference championship football game. Fox already had rights to this year's inaugural game; starting in 2012, the game will alternate between Fox and ESPN, starting with Fox.
Hansen Named Nation's Top Player
Hansen, the Pac-10 player of the year, led the nation in doubles per game (0.45) and set Stanford single-season records for hits, batting average and slugging percentage. Junior shortstop Ashley Hansen, who had the nation's third best batting average (.495) and struck out only five times for the season, was named USA Softball's college player of the year. She is the first Stanford player to win the 10-year-old award and the second non-pitcher to receive it.
