July Means Jazz

Now in its 38th season, the Stanford Jazz Festival opened on June 26 and continues through August 8, concurrent with Stanford's Jazz Workshop, Jazz Camp and Jazz Residency. Festival performances showcase jazz veterans and burgeoning talents in evening concerts, free noontime performances, late-night jam sessions, and special events for children and families. Some of this year's headliners: saxophonist James Moody, jazz violinist Regina Carter, Brazilian guitarist Paulo Bellanati with Carlos Olivier and Harvey Wainapel, Wesla Whitfield with the Mike Greensill Trio, the Heath Brothers and Cuban jazz pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba. Special programs include Songs of Sinatra: An American Celebration on July 5 and Stan@Stanford, a tribute on August 4 to the late Stan Getz, one of the workshop's early participants. All in all, more than 100 artists will perform 34 concerts.
