This year's fiction contest -- our second -- drew almost 50 submissions from alums of Stanford's undergraduate, graduate and fellowship programs. Each entry was read by Daniel Orozco, a Stegner fellow in creative writing. He handed off his favorite 20 to Ken Fields, PhD '67, a professor of English and creative writing. Fields picked the top three.
