Nearly 70 alumni entered our seventh annual fiction contest. Stories were judged by Nancy Packer, professor emerita of English, former director of Stanford’s creative writing program, and author of four collections of stories. Packer said of the winning story, “The main character is very strongly portrayed and the writing is detailed and rich.” She gave honorable mention to “Island Hopping” by Meredith Aitken, ’93, and to “The Matchbox Army” by Andy Grose, MLA ’01.
