Professor of health policy Jay Bhattacharya, ’90, MA ’90, MD ’98, PhD ’01, has been tapped to lead the National Institutes of Health, pending confirmation by the Senate.
Just down the Potomac, the 119th Congress includes 11 alums who prevailed in November: Democrat Adam Schiff, ’82, now represents California in the Senate, and Republican Sen. Josh Hawley, ’02, continues to represent Missouri. Democratic Reps. Teresa Leger Fernandez, JD ’87, of New Mexico; Joaquin Castro, ’96, of Texas; Josh Harder, ’08, Mike Levin, ’01, Ted Lieu, ’91, and Zoe Lofgren, ’70, all of California; Dan Goldman, JD ’05, of New York; and Chrissy Houlahan, ’89, of Pennsylvania, won reelection to the House. Newly elected Democratic Rep. Yassamin Ansari, ’14, of Arizona, joins them.
Winning is old hat (and bat, and glove) for Tommy Edman, ’16. The Los Angeles Dodger nabbed both the National League Championship Series MVP award and his first World Series ring.
Titles are Carissa Yip’s specialty. The junior has become the U.S. women’s chess champion for the third time.

And Andrew Luck, ’12, MA ’23, is returning to the game. The former Cardinal and Indianapolis Colts quarterback is back on the Farm as Stanford Football’s general manager.
