Stegner fellow Anthony Marra won a $50,000 Whiting Writers Award for an emerging novelist. . . . Night of the Republic, by University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill professor Alan Shapiro, a '75-76 Stegner fellow, was a poetry finalist for the National Book Award. . . .
