A new Title IX coordinator, Catherine Criswell, has joined Stanford after almost two decades with the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights. Criswell, a specialist on issues of sexual harassment and violence, will coordinate campus education and prevention efforts as well as oversee investigations of alleged violations to Title IX, which prohibits discrimination based on gender in programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance.
Criswell, who earned her doctorate of jurisprudence at Case Western Reserve University, served in positions including chief attorney and regional director for the civil rights office's operations in Ohio and Michigan.
