Brodie Hamilton, center, retired as the director of Stanford's Parking and Transportation Services on March 31. Under his 13-year leadership, programs such as the Commuter Club, the free Caltrain Go Pass and Valley Transportation Authority Eco Pass, and the quadrupling of buses in the Marguerite shuttle system have reduced the proportion of faculty and staff who drive to work alone from 72 percent in 2002 to 47 percent last year. Given Hamilton's high-wheeling hobby, it's fitting that promotions by the P&TS Bicycle Program have helped boost cycling to account for 20 percent of campus commutes.
