After a drought in which Ohio State won five consecutive synchronized swimming titles, Stanford swept every event at the collegiate championships March 26 in Gainesville, Fla. Olympic bronze medalist Sara Lowe, ’08, and Collegiate Athlete of the Year Katie Norris, ’05, led the Cardinal. Head coach Heather Pease Olson, ’99, received Coach of the Year honors. . . . The top-ranked women’s tennis team was off to a 17-0 start at press time, including seven shutouts. The Cardinal is led by junior Amber Liu (ranked No. 14 in singles play) and No. 12 doubles tandem Alice Barnes, ’06, and Erin Burdette, ’05. . . . The No. 5 softball team (24-5) defeated UNLV to win the Stanford Tournament on March 26. The squad then concluded nonconference play by splitting a doubleheader with Fresno State. Freshman pitcher Becky McCullough has been sensational for the Cardinal, registering a 7-0 record with a 1.37 ERA and 48 strikeouts.
