The median annual household income in the United States as of October 2013, reported by the Stanford Center on Poverty and Inequality in The Poverty and Inequality Report 2014, represents a roughly 7 percent loss from the pre-recession (July 2007) figure of $56,100. The report assesses poverty rates, social safety net measures, inequality in income, wealth, health and education, and concludes: "It is worth considering whether a no-holds-barred commitment to job-delivering reform might be a more efficient and sustainable way forward" as opposed to piecemeal attempts to reform institutions.
