Former Microsoft executive Jeff Raikes, ’80, has been elected chair of the university’s Board of Trustees, succeeding Steve Denning, MBA ’78, who has held the position since July 2012. Raikes, former chief executive officer of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has served on a variety of Stanford trustee and school committees, as well as contributed along with his wife, Tricia, as a benefactor of research and educational programs.

Raikes, who joined the Board of Trustees in 2012, was a member of the presidential search committee that selected Marc Tessier-Lavigne as Stanford’s 11th president last year. He and his wife also created the Raikes Foundation, which provides grants for education, youth homelessness programs, and expanded learning opportunities to advance a just and inclusive society.
