On Friday, March 28, these 1,662 coveted “fat envelopes” went out to students selected for admission to the Class of 2012. An additional 738 students admitted through the University’s early action program were notified in December. But snail mail is so last century. Shortly after the U.S. Postal Service vans left Montag Hall, a button was pushed on a computer, sending an e-mail notification instantaneously to each of the 25,298 applicants. Still, for the deserving 9.5 percent there’s nothing quite like getting that envelope with “Congratulations!” printed in Cardinal red across the front.
