Jessica Torres, ’84, and Rafael Sedillo, ’80, and Angela Arvizu Szymusiak, ’88, MA ’89, and Juan Orosco, ’87, perform in Locos para Bailar, one of six new works at the 30th Spring Migration dance concert. Choreographers Susan Cashion and Marcos Romero directed 14 alumni of the Ballet Folklórico de Stanford, who took the name Los Añejos—as in fine aged tequila. Their dance exemplifying the “Latino spirit of joy (alegría), optimism and humor” was accompanied by Dr. Loco’s Rockin’ Jalapeño Band, directed by former faculty member Jose Cuellar and featuring Jesus Covarrubias, MA ’95, Chris Gonzalez Clark, ’85, MA ’06, PhD ’08, and Charlie Montoya, ’87. Many of the performers at the concert danced in honor of senior lecturer Cashion, MA ’82, PhD ’83, who retires in June.
