Vicious online attackers did their best to ruin Daniel Lee, ’02, MA ’02, aka Tablo, Korea’s superstar rapper. But the once despondent Lee rallied to produce his first solo album last fall, and Fever's End Part 2 (YG Entertainment) hit No. 1 on the iTunes hip hop/rap chart.

Noelle Hanrahan, ’86, has been instrumental in publicizing the controversial death sentence of Mumia Abu-Jamal; she has produced his weekly radio commentaries since 1992. In December, prosecutors announced that they no longer seek his execution, settling instead for life imprisonment without possibility of parole.

Playwright Jordan Harrison, ’99,   had two shows running off-Broadway in late fall, both earning warm reviews in the New York Times. His play The Revision was part of an evening of short works about gay marriage, and Maple and Vine wistfully pits frenetic modern lifestyles against a quieter Ozzie-and-Harriet era.

If Sumbul Ali-Karamali, ’85,  was dismayed when her book demystifying Islam seemed overshadowed by tomes on terrorism after 9/11, she is “tremendously honored” that The Muslim Next Door: The Qur'an, the Media, and That Veil Thing is one of two books selected by Silicon Valley Reads for its 2012 program.
