The latest in a long string of NCAA championships for Stanford comes courtesy of a breakthrough performance by the men’s soccer team, which defeated Clemson 4-0 in the December 13 College Cup final to capture the program’s first national title since varsity play began, in 1911. Stanford has now recorded 40 straight years of at least one NCAA team championship, and it’s the fifth school to have earned Division I soccer crowns by both the men’s and women’s squads. Jeremy Gunn, in his fourth season on the Farm, became the fourth coach to notch titles in divisions I and II. And Jordan Morris, a finalist in the competition for the Hermann Trophy, awarded to the best college player, scored twice, with the first goal coming just 87 seconds into the match.
