Stanford has appointed Alison Colwell as director of investment responsibility stakeholder relations, a new position intended to encourage, streamline and inform university-wide dialogue about investment issues.
Colwell joined Stanford in January and reports to the President’s Office. She has more than a decade of experience at global agencies, consulting on stakeholder concerns such as human rights, labor conditions and sustainable development. She has worked as a facilitator with communities, companies, governments and universities. At Stanford, Colwell will be the central contact for such issues and a liaison to the administration.
As such, she staffs both the Advisory Panel on Investment Responsibility and Licensing—a longstanding committee with faculty, student, staff and alumni representation that makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees—and the Trustees’ Special Committee on Investment Responsibility. APIRL is currently reviewing Fossil Free Stanford’s request that Stanford divest from oil and gas investments.
In an effort to engage the university community in responsible investment issues, APIRL holds an annual Town Hall. This year’s meeting will take place at the Alumni Center on May 11 from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
