Men's basketball coach Johnny Dawkins, who led the Cardinal into the Sweet 16 round of last season's NCAA tournament, has received a contract extension. Terms were not disclosed, per university policy.
Dawkins's record at Stanford is 117-87 and includes the 2012 NIT championship. The Sweet 16 squad went 23-13 and was 5-2 against opponents ranked in the top 25.
Athletic director Bernard Muir noted that Dawkins's tenure also has been distinguished by his players' academic excellence, with a number of them having been selected for Pac-12 all-academic honors. The combined success on and off the court "illustrates Johnny's ability to lead this program into the future," said Muir.
