At Last Count: 125,000 rpm

That’s the speed of a 20-cent paper centrifuge developed by Stanford bioengineers. Powered by hand instead of electricity, it separates blood plasma from red cells in 1.5 minutes, making it possible to diagnose malaria and other diseases in off-the-grid areas where these diseases are prevalent.
