Part of the latest chapter of Disney's wildly successful High School Musical franchise was filmed on the Farm last summer. In High School Musical 3: Senior Year, released theatrically in October, sweethearts Troy and Gabriella struggle with the prospect of attending separate colleges. Singing and dancing ensue.
Brainy Gabriella, played by Vanessa Hudgens (left), is admitted to Stanford, and comes to campus to attend a fictional pre-college program for gifted students. Hudgens shot scenes in the area behind History Corner, on Lasuen Mall leading to the Quad from the Bing Wing of Green Library, in Dohrmann Grove next to the Art Gallery and in the New Guinea sculpture garden.
It's unusual for the University to grant access to a major motion picture crew, says associate director of communications Kate Chesley (the last one was 1997's Flubber, shot in part at Maples Pavilion). But Stanford agreed to accommodate the HSM: 3 production because, “the story line reflects the message about accessibility that we want to convey.”
