Sheri Sheppard, professor of mechanical engineering, was named the 2014 U.S. Professor of the Year for doctoral and research universities. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching sponsors the award, which honors achievements in undergraduate teaching and mentoring and is also given in the categories of community colleges, baccalaureate colleges and colleges offering master’s degrees.
For more than 20 years, Sheppard has studied how to attract and train young engineers; she previously won Stanford’s Walter J. Gores Award for teaching. Her industry experience includes positions at Chrysler, Ford and General Motors.
