It's difficult to surf the web these days without making a Stanford connection. Whether you're trying to find a date, make a hotel reservation, sue your neighbor or sell your car, there's a Stanford grad behind many of the most popular sites. And, with both Yahoo! and Excite founded by Stanford alums, chances are your search engine is Cardinal, too. We offer a partial list of alums who would love to be added to your bookmarks:

Address: www.match.com

Stanford Link:
Gary Kremen, MBA '89

Fran Maier, MBA '89

Mission:
Tired of blind dates, bar scenes, hang-ups and mixed messages? Still wondering: "Is there a right person for me?" So was Kremen, who had trouble getting a date. He started match.com, where professional single adults meet for new relationships. Browsers can register for a 10-day trial, then pay $9.95 a month. By the way, Kremen's still available.

Address: www.findlaw.com

Stanford Link:
Tim Stanley, '86, MS '89

Stacy Stern Stanley, '90

Martin Roscheisen, MS '95

Mission:
This trio started Findlaw to make it easy to locate legal information on the Internet. Whether you want to look up specific cases, locate statutes, search for articles in law reviews or get legal education credit by surfing the Internet for interactive courses--it's all here.

Address: www.atevo.com

Stanford Link:
Hyun Shin, MBA '96

Mission:
Shin's goal is to build the first community-based travel site where people gather to explore, inform and plan. Formerly called Travelpoint, the site offers a flight reservation booking system, maps and a travel site of the week.

Address: www.placestostay.com

Stanford Link:
Eric Christensen, MA/MBA '87, Greg Jones, MBA '88,
Andy Chan, '84, MBA '88

Mission:
Don't you hate it when the hotel room you booked looks nothing like what you imagined? Now you can see four-color photos, check rates and availability and then book a room online. Prices are always current and sometimes reflect last-minute discounts. The site features 400 properties and reaches from California to Mexico to Europe.

Address: www.agescape.com

Stanford Link:
David Silberman, '41

Mission:
Find out what's on the older generation's mind. According to Agescape, they're talking about cohabitation in the '90s, reading about seniors who are redefining retirement (Julia Child, for one), exchanging ideas for second careers (recording earthquake activity, adopting abandoned desert tortoises) and planning their next travel adventures.

Address: www.channelA.com

Stanford Link:
Peter Chu, '86

Mission:
"Feed Your ImaginAsian" is the logo on this site. From conversations on a post-Deng China to guest chefs sharing their culinary talents, Channel A is a good place to experience Asia from a Western perspective. It also offers information on how to do business in Asia and demystifies the ancient science of Chinese herbal healing. You can even order hard-to-find spices from a vendor in Thailand.

Address: www.classifieds2000.com

Stanford Link:
Sani El-Fishawy, MS '91

Mission:
Cars, computers, couches, crystal--it's all there for you to buy and sell. Unlike your local Sunday newspaper, Classifieds 2000 offers a national listing of items.

Address: www.bigbook.com

Stanford Link:
Kris Hagerman, MBA '94

Mission:
If you're tired of hauling your 5 pounds of Yellow Pages around, you'll like this site. Type in the name of the business you want to look up and, in addition to the address and telephone number, you get a map, driving instructions, hours of operation, a review and comments from other customers. You can also create your own website to include in the bigbook starting at $50 a month.
