She has taken two Stanford teams to college championships and brought home the gold at the Goodwill Games and the 1996 Olympics. Now Tara VanDerveer is taking a shot at the publishing game. In a new book, VanDerveer writes about her days as an aspiring player, her first unpaid coaching job and her position today at the top of her field. She also presents a behind-the-scenes account of her Olympics experience, which proved to her the value of "my confounding, relentless passion for the game." Shooting from the Outside: How a Coach and Her Olympic Team Transformed Women's Basketball is due in September from Avon Books.
