When playgoer Raga Ramachandran, ’95, MA ’95, joined the opening scenes of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, she brought some extra credibility onstage. She won the 1988 National Spelling Bee when she was 13. Ramachandran, a resident in pathology and laboratory medicine at UC-San Francisco, spelled four words, including one of the show’s most frequent stumpers, “ouabain.” Misspelling “qiviut” sent her back to the audience.
