President Bush awarded the National Medal of Arts to former English professor N. Scott Momaday, MA ’60, PhD ’63, and the National Humanities Medal to Hoover fellow Victor Davis Hanson, PhD ’80. • Robert Hass, PhD ’76, the former U.S. poet laureate, won the 2007 National Book Award for poetry for Time and Materials (Ecco/HarperCollins). Poet Linda Gregerson, PhD ’87, was nominated for Magnetic North (Houghton Mifflin) and English and humanities professor Arnold Rampersad was nominated for Ralph Ellison: A Biography (Knopf). • The Los Altos History Museum honors community benefactors Lucile and David Packard, ’34, Engr. ’39 (right), with an exhibit that runs from January 17 through June 22. • Adina’s Deck, a film and website that educates middle-school students about cyberbullying, was developed by Debbie Heimowitz, MA ’07, and Santa Clara University counselor Jason Azicri.
