Creatures of a Day by Reginald Gibbons, MA ’71, PhD ’74, was one of five finalists for the National Book Award for poetry. • James Harvestus Locus III, ’08, MA ’08, is the composer of Babyland—Adagio for String Orchestra, a San Jose Chamber Orchestra commission that will have its premiere January 11. • Lysley Tenorio, a 2000 Stegner Fellow in fiction, won one of the 2008 Whiting Awards, a $50,000 prize for early-career writers. • In January, South Coast Repertory, in Costa Mesa, Calif., presents the world premiere of You, Nero, by Amy Freed, artist in residence in the drama department.
