The first person to walk in space without a tether, Bruce McCandless, MS ’65, was inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame at a ceremony at Kennedy Space Center on April 29. McCandless flew on the shuttle Challenger in 1984 and on Discovery in 1990.... Lisa Gordon, ’82, was executive producer of the feature film Her Majesty, released this spring. Susan Saltz, ’81, was associate producer.... Lucy Shapiro, Virginia and D. K. Ludwig Professor of Cancer Research, has won the Selman A. Waksman Award in Microbiology for her pioneering work in bacterial cell research. The $5,000 biannual prize is given by the National Academy of Sciences.... Paul Williams, JD ’90, co-founder of the Public International Law & Policy Group, has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. PILPG is a nonprofit law firm providing free legal assistance to developing countries. Williams is a professor of law and international relations at American University.
