Growing up in Houston, Christy Haubegger, JD '92, loved to read fashion magazines. There was only one problem: "I never saw any faces that looked like mine." At Stanford Law School, she took a course--Business: What Lawyers Should Know--and the idea for Latina magazine was born.

Along with the usual women's mag fodder--fashion, makeup, sex ("12 Signs He's Doing It ¡Con Otra!")--Latina has plenty of substance. A recent issue included an interview with Fidel Castro's expatriate daughter, advice on raising street-smart kids and a guide to Hispanic concerns in the election. After just three issues, circulation stands at 300,000. For the 28-year-old publisher, the venture is already a success: She knows where to find familiar faces.
