Author Joyce Carol Oates and poet Louise Glück are the Creative Writing Program’s 2014-15 visiting writers, teaching undergraduate seminars during the winter quarter. Oates has written more than 70 books, including short-story collections, plays and essays; she won the 1970 National Book Award in Fiction for her novel Them. Glück is a former poet laureate of the United States; her book Faithful and Virtuous Night recently won the 2014 National Book Award in Poetry.
In addition to teaching, the writers will offer public readings at Stanford. Glück’s is scheduled for the evening of January 21 at the Knight Management Center; Oates’s will be on February 11, also at the center.
