Thomas Gilligan, dean of the business school at the University of Texas at Austin, will become director of the Hoover Institution on War, Revolution and Peace on September 1. A former Hoover national fellow, Gilligan succeeds John Raisian, who has been director since 1989 and remains a Hoover senior fellow. Gilligan, a scholar of economics and political science, has served as a linguist in the U.S. Air Force and was a staff economist at the Council of Economic Advisers under President Ronald Reagan. He held multiple administrative roles at the University of Southern California and has taught at the California Institute of Technology.
