On one of the first balmy afternoons of spring, freshman Kelly Dunagan took a walk around Lake Lagunita. She had some reading to do -- The Bostonians by Henry James for her writing and critical thinking class -- so she found a spot on a beached raft. "It was the first time I'd seen the lake with water," says the native of St. Louis. "It was a gorgeous day." And the music on her headphones? A homemade tape of songs by Vietnam-era rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival. Her parents would probably approve.
