Faculty and staff use the web to explore eclectic interests. Some favorite sites:
James Montoya, vice provost for student affairs
- Learn2.com -- Use the easy-to-follow lessons for tips on everything from burping a baby to helping a hangover. Tutorial No. 0538 "teaches you how to tie a bow-tie. It's where I refer all my friends," says the dapper Montoya.
- Epicurious -- Indulge a zest for cooking and travel in one place. On the food side, you can search for recipes by ingredient. Then, travel more easily with resources like "Terminally Hip: A guide to getting out of more than 100 airports fast and hassle-free."
Estelle Freedman, professor of history
- Chicanas.com -- Created by Susana Gallardo, a Stanford graduate student in religious studies, this is a homepage for Chicana feminism in all its diversity. It includes links to artists and writers as well as political and health sites.
- Guerrilla Girls -- Funny, biting critiques of male domination in the art world. It includes posters like: "Q: If February is Black History month and March is Women's History month, what happens the rest of the year? A: Discrimination."
David Fetterman, consulting professor of education
- Maps on Us -- Click here for maps and directions to almost any location in the United States. Specify the fastest or shortest route and impress friends by never getting lost.
- iVisit -- Videoconference free with friends on the Web. You do need a digital videocamera (cost: $50 to $100), but the software is free. Escapades of previous users are featured at iVisit's "A Day in the Life" section.
