Forget Fifth Avenue and Rodeo Drive. The Stanford Shopping Center has become a magnet for high-end retail. The center already is hometo flagships Neiman-Marcus, Nordstrom and Macy's, as well as boutiques from Ann Taylor to Williams-Sonoma. Now comes another big name: Bloomingdale's.
The New York retailer opens its first West Coast store at Stanford on November 8. (The expansion wave continues throughout the month as Bloomies pops up in three Southern California locations.) Two days before the Stanford opening, a gala event features Liza Minnelli and benefits the Stanford Medical Center. The proceeds--an estimated $500,000--will be devoted to research in cancer and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
The company boasts that the interior of the Stanford store will have "textured marble floors" and "stately columns" and will be "an exciting homage to Modernism." And we just wanted a place to get a pair of socks.
