A Dip in the Presidential Pool

Among the 400 names submitted to a search committee this winter is the one belonging to Stanford's next president. After nominations closed on January 14, the 17-member group began sifting through suggestions that include figures from government, politics and, of course, academia. The trustees hope to announce their choice by the end of this school year. The appointee will join a club whose typical member is a 56-year-old white male.
