2,424 Admitted; Tuition to Rise 4.5 Percent

Stanford extended offers of admission for the Class of 2008 to 1,621 students in March. They join the 803 students previously admitted under the new single-choice early-action program. The 2,424 admittees represent 12.6 percent of the total applicant pool of 19,169.

Those who enroll will face a slightly bigger bill: rates for undergraduate tuition, room and board will rise 4.5 percent next year. Tuition will increase from $28,564 to $29,847, and room and board will rise from $9,073 to $9,500. But, says Board of Trustees chair Isaac Stein, JD/MBA ’72, “we are increasing financial aid faster than we are increasing tuition so that we’re making sure we do not impair the ability of families to receive the necessary financial aid to attend Stanford.” Tuition increases for Stanford graduate programs range from 4.5 percent to 4.9 percent.
